In the last week, we’ve just bought a new TV. In fairness, there was nothing really wrong with the old one, but this one rocks. After, hours of random button pressing (careful research, my husband says), it suddenly started to talk to the internet and voila, HorseHero.com fires up. Impressive. Shame we can’t repeat this, as no-one was paying attention as to how we got there.
This leaves us with a problem.
When it goes wrong we’ll have no idea what to do with it. In 1976, when electrical equipment broke, all you needed was a hammer. Now you need a degree in electrical engineering, just to get the packaging open.
Which comes on to the next point, not un-connected with our HorseHero.com exploits. Technology is definitely making us more stupid. We love the stuff it does, but we don’t know how it does it.
My family, generally reads stuff; books, magazines, newspapers etc.. And lord knows, we talk, talk, talk (which is a good thing, mainly). But in the course of the last six months, we’ve acquired 3 iPads. Mum, dad and Offspring. Now we sit together like the three wise monkeys, with our iPads and there is … silence. Books sit unread and the cats have to get their own tea. This can only be a bad thing.
A plan is required …
